Apocalypse Now, the Final Cut is coming to the Strand

Apocalypse Now, the Final Cut
Strand Theatre
Saturday, August 24 at 7 PM

It's been 40 years since Apocalypse Now was released, and The Strand in downtown Vicksburg is participating in the brief national theatrical rollout of Francis Ford Coppola's vision of wartime insanity in this brand new cut and restoration.

Restored from the original negative, Apocalypse Now Final Cut is Coppola’s most realized version of the film to date.

I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one...

Terminate with extreme prejudice....

One day this war is going to end...

I love the smell of napalm in the morning...

If I say it’s safe to surf this beach, Captain, it’s safe to surf this beach!

Never get out of the boat...Never get out of the boat...Never get out of the boat...

You’re an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill...

I don't see any method at all, sir...

The Horror...the Horror

"In its present and restored form, the majesty and madness of 'Apocalypse Now' is more vivid and hallucinatory than ever." - Jack Coyle, AP

"You'll feel those choppers before you even hear them. It sounds like artistic sonic warfare." - Chase Burns, The Stranger

"From Marlon Brando's extraordinary cameo to Dennis Hopper's crazed photojournalist, Coppola's epic 'definitive' cut of his brilliant 1979 war film is triumphant...." - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Abbey Road side 2 at the Strand

And in the end...

Deconstructing the Beatles: Abbey Road (side 2)

Saturday, August 17 at 7 PM

The Beatles’ Abbey Road is a masterpiece filled with classic Beatles songs, such as “Come Together,” “Something,” and “Here Comes the Sun.”  George Martin told the Beatles to think “symphonically,” and they responded by creating the remarkable side two song suite.

Abbey Road was the last time that the Beatles recorded together at EMI Studios — soon-to-be-christened Abbey Road Studios after the album’s release. Despite the bittersweet atmosphere that surrounded the recording sessions, The Beatles’ outstanding songs and performances together with George Martin’s orchestrations produced an album that continues to be regarded as one of the best albums ever created.

In Deconstructing Abbey Road, Beatleologist Scott Freiman has created one of his most in-depth “deconstructions.” Freiman takes the audience on a journey track-by-track explaining the inspiration for the songs and their evolution in the studio.

And who might have been killed, or "almost killed"? The husband of her best friend Jenny (Holly Bonney)! Now, Patsy's husband Randall is in jail, accused of the crime, and Brennan, the victim, is in the hospital in a coma! Something must be wrong and it's up to small town detective Ann (Sadie Hebert) to figure it out. When another innocent bystander gets "almost killed" in Hattiesburg, the mystery hits the road from there to Natchez, Port Gibson, and Yazoo City.
